Deutsche Telekom partner up with MasterCard

Deutsche Telekom partner up with MasterCard to allow its customers to make secure payments using their phones.
A trial version of the technology will be rolled out across Germany and Poland later this year, with a full mobile wallet function expected in early 2013. This will be open to other banks and partners. There will then be a staggered launch across the rest of its European markets.
DT, which owns half of Everything Everywhere in the UK, expects to roll out its m-commerce services to all its 93 million European customers. DT chief product and innovation officer Thomas Kiessling said: "This is a huge step on our way to increase mobile payments. With MasterCard we have well-known and experienced partner generating growth in this important market segment. We want to build a comprehensive ecosystem around mobile payments, helping Telekom to realise its strategy of being the first choice for customers regarding connecting life and work."
MasterCard president of international markets Ann Cairns added: "The payment space continues to be ripe for innovation, particularly at a time when we're seeing an acceleratinh movement away from cash-driven by technology. MasterCard heritage is rooted in the creation of open technology designed for everyone wanting to benefit from a more convenient and secure shopping experience.
The mobile wallet service is open to other issuing banks and partners, helping support pur customers in adapting to new consumers behaviours and changing dynamics." And now Deutsche Telekom partner up with Mastercard it will be interesting to see what will happen next with this partnership and what other companies follow suit!
