THe Change Foundation
A WORTHY CAUSEThe Change Foundation has its beginnings in the aftermath of the 1981 Brixton Riots when cricket was leveraged to promote community cohesion. Over the years the project has grown to encompass many sports, but always with a view to enabling increased access and participation for those who normally are excluded by socio-economic factors or just by a lack of knowledge.
To date the Change Foundation has partnered with such projects, institutions and people as the Tennis Foundation, Cricket for Girls, England Blind Cricket, Haringay Cricket College, Dance Therapy, UNICEF in Sierra Leone, Partnered with ex-England captain Lawrence Dallaglio, Lords Taverners and even launched an E-Sports programme during the pandemic.
At Best4Systems we support the Change Foundation as we value the way in which sport is all inclusive and that it has a way of, on a personal level – increasing confidence and on a social level – forming bonds via participation and increasing a sense of belonging and community.
A study carried out between 2012 and 2020 proposed the following conclusion :
The evidence indicates that participation in sport (community and elite) is related to better mental health, including improved psychological well-being (for example, higher self-esteem and life satisfaction) and lower psychological ill-being (for example, reduced levels of depression, anxiety, and stress), and improved social outcomes (for example, improved self-control, pro-social behavior, interpersonal communication, and fostering a sense of belonging).
