We Hear with Our Ears but Listen with Our Brain
EPOS, as a result of extensive psychoacoustic research have put together their findings under the umbrella concept of BrainAdapt™ . To put it simply, in the design and manufacture of both hardware and software for headsets, speakerphones and video conferencing equipment extensive research has ( and is ) been carried out in order discover how the brain processes audio. This is conducted with a view to making the audio experience as natural and as ‘ergonomic’ as possible.
An illuminating fact is that “We Hear with Our Ears but Listen with Our Brain” – meaning that the brain does an awful lot of work in the processing of the audio input conveyed by the ears. What EPOS have discovered is that sounds that are not easily processed ( i.e. not recognised ) cause stress and weariness. This issue is known as Cognitive Load.
