The two forerunners in the web based video calling battle are Zoom and MS Teams. The former became the household name, the latter an easy adoption add-on for businesses already running Office 365.
Zoom is a video call based system, where Teams incorporates all the Office environment apps.
Security is similar in both environments. Both Boasted EE2E (end to end encryption) although when tested this was flawed in both systems. The adoption of password based calls, waiting rooms and the easy eviction of disruptive parties from calls has now made them both significantly more secure if the recommended steps are followed.
Feature-wise, they also share a number of VC staples:
- Screen sharing – essential for collaboration, presentation and interaction
- Custom and blurred backgrounds
- Viewing modes
- Breakout Zones
- Text Chat
Both parties have incorporated accessibility features addressing the needs of many people such as transcription and live captions.
For Support and Assistance the varied video and text based instructional collateral supplied both the operators is excellent, thorough and helpful. Native interfacing with Android, iOS, MacOS, Linus, and, of course, Windows, has made the experience better and more slick.
