OK, our blog has a tendency to be overtly technical and centered upon communications devices so we thought we’d throw a piece of heart warming culture into the mix.
Earlier on in the year I was lucky enough to receive two tickets ( a gift ) to go to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to see the David Bowie exhibition. Now, for those of you who have managed to remain unaware of the most visited expo at the V&A of all time I will explain…
David Bowie is a legend in music and had his roots in art, photography, poetry and all forms of varied and wild self expression. The exhibition, which runs from 23rd March to 11th August 2013 showcases :
more than 300 objects that include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and Bowie’s own instruments.
Senheisser’s Immersive Experience
At the entrance to V&A my daughter and I were greeted with a pair of headphones each. I knew that Sennheiser were a sponsor of the exhibition but that surely did not mean that I had to wear headphones to look around an art gallery I thought. The nice lady on the reception told us that they were necessary so I donned the headset and started round the venue.
It was not long before I was amazed at the technology in these Sennheiser headphones, for a start the sound was of unsurpassed acoustic clarity, but this was not what was most striking. As one wandered around looking at costumes, videos and pictures the sound changed. I don’t know if it was directional or positional or both, but you could look at a screen and hear David Bowie’s poetry being recounted by the author himself and, then turning to look at a lyrics manuscript the headphones would start to play the song itself. As we ventured deeper amongst the exhibits we were drawn into a world all of its own and the audio experience from Sennheiser perfectly complemented the Bowie archives and gave, as the website David Bowie Is says, delivers a truly immersive experience.
It was a great day, I was almost in tears looking at Bowie’s handwritten lyrics to Ziggy Stardust and left the museum in good spirits.
